Use of Community Resources
The Community Engagement Coordinator assists school staff in identifying, scheduling, and coordinating a variety of guest speakers and outreaches, which are often inexpensive resources, which do not take students out of the classroom. Guest speakers and outreaches are great ways for community members to become involved!

Studies have shown that children do better in school when their parents and community members are involved; active family and community involvement play a vital role in student success. It’s a win for all since volunteers gain valuable experience and personal contacts, make new friends, develop new skills while enriching the lives of our Abingdon students. Volunteering gives you an opportunity to form a community that reflects characteristics important to us all: dedicated teachers, curious students and supportive and involved families.
Anyone can be a volunteer: parents, grandparents and other family members; retirees; business and professional people, and college, high and middle school students. All it takes is a genuine interest in helping children.

We do require that all potential volunteers have a criminal history background check and attend a volunteer orientation, which can be scheduled with the Community Engagement Coordinator.
